General Information

The purpose of Liguori Publications is to effectively communicate the word of God in the Catholic Tradition by growing and expanding our outreach to Catholics of all ages through print and electronic media. Our aim is to lead people toward a deeper union with God through prayer, communion with one another, and a joyful practice of their faith.

We provide English- and Spanish-language (Libros Liguori) products that meet the needs of our customers. We seek to serve

  • Catholics of all ages who wish to grow in their relationship with God and in their knowledge of the basic truths of the Catholic faith
  • Catholics who are not well catechized in the teachings of the Church
  • Catholics who feel neglected by, rejected by, or estranged from God or the Church
  • Pastoral and catechetical ministers

To this end, we provide catechetical and devotional products and services that aid evangelization, ongoing conversion, and faith formation and that foster a life of prayer and Christian practice.

Submitting Your Proposal

Please submit a two- to four-page typed outline describing your work. A small sample of your writing (such as a chapter) may be included, but please do not send the full manuscript unless we ask to see it. Include a cover letter that states

  • Your proposed title
  • The anticipated format and manuscript length
  • The specific audience for whom the work is intended
  • Your ideas for marketing the work
  • A comparison of your work to other published works on the subject with an explanation of why your treatment of the subject is unique
  • A brief autobiographical summary telling us your qualifications to write on the subject and how you have researched the subject

Be sure to include your complete name, address, phone and/or fax number, and e-mail address. An editor will acknowledge your proposal in two to four months. Please do not send additional material unless it is requested. If you want your manuscript to be returned to you, include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

We do not review proposals or manuscripts that are simultaneously being submitted to other publishers, nor do we accept responsibility for lost or unsolicited manuscripts.

After Your Manuscript Is Accepted

If your manuscript is accepted, your editor will give you a deadline for completing it. Please notify your editor as soon as possible of any necessary delays or changes in this deadline. Failure to meet your deadlines will delay, and may even prevent, the publication of your work.

Authors are responsible for securing written permission from the original publisher of copyrighted material (including quotes and illustrations) used in their manuscripts. Permission must include electronic and print rights, and a copy of that written permission must be submitted with the manuscript. Generally speaking, authors are also responsible for any fees incurred for the use of copyrighted material. All Scripture quotes should come from the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible.

Click here for our author checklist. (MS Word Format 24KB) Your editor will keep you informed of scheduling issues, give suggestions for possible improvements, discuss significant manuscript changes with you, and answer any reasonable questions about plans and progress related to your work.
