To have freelance manuscripts considered for publication, please observe the following guidelines:
Articles must not exceed 2,000 words. Personal essays should be limited to 1,200-1,400 words. Fiction submissions should be approximately 2,000 words. Style and vocabulary should be popular and readable. Use an interest-grabbing opening; state why the subject is important to readers; use examples, quotes, anecdotes; make practical applications; and end strongly.
- Liguorian does not consider simultaneous submissions or articles previously accepted or published.
- Liguorian does not consider retold Bible stories.
- Liguorian does not consider poetry.
- Seasonal articles and stories must be received 8 months in advance.
- Manuscripts should be typewritten and double spaced. Please indicate the word count of your submission and whether your submission is fact or fiction. Include your name, address, and Social Security number (no check will be issued without a SS#). Address manuscript to Liguorian Submissions, One Liguori Drive, Liguori, MO 63057-9999. Manuscripts not accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope will not be returned.
- Manuscripts may be e-mailed to liguorianeditor@liguori.org. If you submit a manuscript electronically, you may expect to receive our response by e-mail.
- Please allow 8 to 12 weeks for our response. All manuscripts that are accepted for publication will have been critiqued by 4 to 5 readers. Many manuscripts that are returned will have been read by as many people.
- Liguorian assumes no responsibility for damaged or lost material. Please keep a copy of your manuscript.
- Payment for articles and fiction is 10 to 15 cents a published word on acceptance.
Your manuscript stands a better chance of acceptance if it is neatly presented, carefully polished, and on a topic of special interest to our readers. Liguorian receives more than 100 manuscripts each month. Many manuscripts must be returned though they may be well written and have merit.
